Diverse Learning Needs

St Raphael's School has a commitment to providing the very best for all students. As a result the school has support staff for students with special needs, who in collaboration with class teachers, provide specific programs based on individual needs depending on whether your child needs to be extended further or supported with learning challenges.

St Raphael’s endeavours to maximise access to the curriculum for all students by catering to a variety of learning styles and needs.

To meet the needs of our accelerated learners, our students are given the opportunity to participate in the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS).  ICAS are independent skills-based assessments with a competition element.

Our ongoing commitment to inclusive education principles has seen St Raphael’s sustain and build a number of learning initiatives which aim to allow our students to access the curriculum in a meaningful manner. Programs vary each year depending on specific student needs.

Some of these programs have included:

  • Funastics - a program targeting gross motor skills development
  • Lego Club - originally designed to give children with autism or social issues a way to break down barriers by building things together, now open to our entire student community.
  • Assisted Reading Program - support staff work with students who need additional help in this area.
  • Small classroom group work and one on one support is also provided as required.
  • Speech Therapy and private tuition is facilitated on site on an individual needs basis.
